Multivariate test
A multivariate test is an optimization technique that allows you to simultaneously test multiple variations of different elements on a web page.
A multivariate test is an optimization technique that allows you to simultaneously test multiple variations of different elements on a web page. Unlike A/B tests, which compare a single change on the same page to determine which version performs best, multivariate tests evaluate the combined effect of several variables, such as headlines, images, and buttons, by testing all possible combinations of these elements.
This makes it possible to identify not only which elements have the most significant impact, but also how these elements interact with each other to influence the conversion rate. While multivariate tests offer more detailed insights than a traditional A/B test, they also come with drawbacks.
Notably, increased complexity both in terms of implementation and analysis, as well as a need for high traffic to achieve statistically significant results. This traffic requirement is due to the large number of possible combinations, each combination requiring enough data to draw reliable conclusions.
As a result, multivariate tests are often better suited to sites with significant traffic volume and robust analytical resources.
